Esther Gómez Lacabex
Assistant Professor
Esther Gómez-Lacabex is Associate Professor at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Her teaching involves undergraduate and post-graduate courses in English phonetics and phonology and English-as-a-foreign-language teaching and learning. She also lectures in the Masters’ programme Language Acquisition in Multilingual Settings.
Her research interests are the effect of phonetic instruction on L2 sound acquisition and pronunciation teaching and learning in different English-medium learning contexts. She is a member of the research group Language and Speech Laboratory (LASLAB) (http://www.laslab.org/) and has participated in projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation as well as the Basque Government. She has published in journals such as the International Journal of Applied Linguistics, the Canadian Modern Language Review or the European Journal of Applied Linguistics and has recently contributed to the Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition and Technology with a co-authored chapter on pronunciation and technology. She has coordinated the Phonetics and Phonology section at the annual conferences organized by the Spanish Association for English and American Studies (AEDEAN) and has participated in Erasmus+ programmes in Lodz, Poland.
