The University of Cantabria recently hosted the 8th International Conference on English Pronunciation (EPIP) from May 8th – 10th, gathering researchers and English teachers from around the globe.
The event included nearly 50 presentations on topics such as perception, production, technology, and classroom strategies for teaching English pronunciation. Francisco Gallardo, head of the research group Learning English as an Additional Language (LEAL), emphasized the significance of the conference, which included speakers from countries like Australia and Canada. The conference also explored issues related to both native and non-native English accents and pronunciation challenges. LEAL is investigating the impact of teaching English in primary schools on pronunciation and addresses broader aspects of English learning, including morphosyntax, lexis, and the emotional components of learning.
